Who We Are
Our VisionThe world’s polar regions are the all-encompassing future of our planet. Ecologically, they play a vital role in regulating the Earth’s climate and weather. They contain the world’s largest reserves of freshwater and ice. They are home to diverse and uniquely adapted ecosystems. Yet, the poles also have a unique artistic importance. They are human - full of history and stories of harrowing courage, adventure and expedition. And above all, they are beautiful - a masterpiece of nature. We believe that such important areas need to be protected and conserved so that future generations can continue to live lives that are unaffected by climate and still accompanied by these beacons of hope. The only way to ensure this protection for the Arctic and Antarctic is to make youth aware of their fundamental importance. For many, the polar regions are just mysterious white blocks on both edges of the globe. We want to change that.

Our MissionOur Poles Our Planet aims to inspire youth on the grounds of the polar regions, nature’s beauty, and environmental-cultural
sustainability. The organization strives to rally activism and creative solutions with respect to sustainable living, environmental injustice, and the protection of indigenous culture. |
Why Youth?
Because this issue is imperative to today’s youth. Climate change, food shortages, poverty, rising sea levels, and other effects of the deterioration of the poles play ever increasing roles in the lives of today’s youth, ones that will destroy or completely change ways of life going into the future. It is also these youth who will never be able to experience the utter beauty of these places as a result of polar deterioration. But most importantly, youth are in the unique position of both being acutely aware of the needs of today and caring deeply about the needs of the future. Youth can make a difference. If we can inspire the young leaders of today who will be the next politicians, policy makers and citizens - then we can begin to build a culture of sustainability right now that will carry us into the future.
Our Work
The Conferences
Each Our Poles Our Planet conference features a set of guest speakers who have accomplished a set of varied experiences in the world’s polar regions. These include National Geographic photographers, expedition leaders/adventurers, climate scientists, polar historians and more. These formal presentations will be complemented with a variety of interactive seminars where students are able to engage and collaborate with other youth who are currently doing amazing things related to the exploration and preservation of the polar regions and planet. Moreover, there will be plenty of time to network with fellow delegates and to share your new knowledge and passion for the polar regions on a face-to-face basis.
